Bernese Mountain Dog
Rescues and Surrenders
On occasion, we have dogs that are "rescued" out of situations that come up for adoption.  They can range in any age, from young puppy to an older dog.

We also, on occasion, have dogs that we bred in which folks no longer want or can care for - those dogs are what we call "surrenders".  In these situations, it is usually where there is an illness in a family and the family can no longer care for the dog, or they are moving to a place where they cannot take their dog.  These situations do occur, unfortunately.  However, these dogs are usually not new puppies - they are beyond their "formative" years - many are not housebroken or obedience trained, and many still need further shots, etc.

When we take in "rescues" or "surrenders", the owners must sign away the rights to the dog to us?.  We do our best to watch the temperament and disposition of the dog, see how much training (if any) has been given, and watch for problems.  There is a lot of work involved with taking in a "rescue" or "surrendered" dog as many are not even housebroken (requiring lots of baths, and constant sanitizing of crates), many require more vaccinations, monthly heartworm, tick, and flea treatments, and obedience training, etc.  Also, NO DOG LEAVES HERE WITHOUT BEING SPAYED OR NEUTERED or a spay/neuter contract in place (this is at the discretion of us, the breeder).

Sometimes, these dogs are adopted for a minimal fee (usually $500) to cover the cost of the dog being here in our care - our boarding rate is $25 a day.  Others are just placed in good family homes at no cost.  That is at the discretion of us, the breeder, depending on the age of the dog, and how much time, work, and expense the dog has required here in our care.  (i.e., for a dog being here for 30 days@$25 a day is a cost of $750 for the month, in care - that is without additional vet bills, vaccinations, training, and monthly medications for ticks, fleas, and heartworm, etc.)

If you are interested in adopting a "rescued" or "surrendered" dog, please contact us via email with information about you and your family.

If you would like us to consider taking in your dog, we do have an Owner Surrender Form that must be signed by you, and accepted by us before taking in any dog.

Thank you for your interest in our "rescued" and "surrendered" dogs.
